Dedication Ceremony - 7PM on 9/11/13

Tuesday, August 6, 2013 --This week marks a significant milestone in the progress of the  Napa 9/11 Memorial Project. The glass panels containing the names of the 9/11 victims will be installed on Thursday and Friday of this week. The surrounding hardscape elements will be completed next week, and landscaping will be planted and installed the last two weeks of August.

Please save the date of 9/11/13 at 7pm. The Napa 9/11 coalition will be holding a dedication ceremony and the project will be complete at this time.

Ceremony of Installation of Beams

Napa’s 9/11 Memorial Coalition invited the public to see four steel I-beams from the World Trade Center Towers lifted onto the Napa 9/11 Memorial site on Wednesday morning, June 26th. The beams, averaging 22’ in height, were obtained from the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey, and are part of a memorial sculpture and garden currently under construction at 1075 Main Street, near the east entrance of Kohl’s Department Store. The beams will anchor glass panels etched with names of each victim of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Members of the 9/11 Memorial Coalition took a brief moment to honor and celebrate this milestone in the creation of the memorial, a community-wide effort that started in 2010. Work will began around 7:30 a.m. Members of the coalition and design team thank all who have donated to the memorial fund, and the numerous contractors and suppliers who have generously provided equipment and labor. Every donor will be acknowledged on a plaque to be installed at the site upon completion of the project.

The 9/11 Memorial Sculpture and Garden will be completed this summer.

About the Napa 9/11 Memorial

Napa 9-11 Memorial Site PlanIn 2009 the NY and NJ Port Authority approved Napa to receive pieces of World Trade Center steel. These pieces of steel are offered not only to communities of the United States - they are offered to the world to show that we were all affected by this tragedy and to ensure the victims and heroes of 9/11 are never forgotten.

On one level, this Monument attests to the triumph of human dignity and affirms our unwavering commitment to our community and our nation.

But it also recognizes everyone who survived; and all of those who demonstrated such compassion and courage in the aftermath.

In the end, this memorial honors the victims of terrorism and all those who risk their lives to save others.
